Hi Ira! Thanks for doing this with us. Before anything else, please say hi and introduce yourself to our wonderful readers.

Hi everyone! I’m Ira Tan – 27 and currently working as a chef. I love taking photos of everything and anything pretty. I love pets too – I have 2 babies, Hunter, a Siberian husky, and Truffle, a pomeranian. Lastly, I love keeping myself healthy — which is probably why I started working as a chef as well as why I started my journey as a skincare addict. 

How did you get into skincare?

Growing up, I had my fair share of really bad breakouts – especially around my forehead, cheeks and jawline. I’d regularly go to the derma but I dreaded it because my face would always come out “wasak” and I’d have to go to school with that “wasak” face the next day. I had to go through that my whole teenage years, until my sister encouraged me to try Cosrx since it improved her friend’s skin. I clearly remember that I spent at least 10k on my first Black Friday skincare haul. At that time I told myself, “Let’s document this since I’ve already spent so much 😂” and that’s how sammieskin was born! 

What were your skin concerns before incorporating the By Wishtrend Vitamin A-mazing Bakuchiol Night Cream into your routine? Did the product help? How? 

I have very visible pores and dull looking skin and I feel like it’s becoming worse as I age.

I know that retinol is the gold standard when it comes to anti-aging ingredients, but sadly the ones I’ve tried before (Cosrx and The Ordinary) didn’t work for me. They broke me out – and I’m sure it was NOT just purging.

100% YES! Retinol was something I’ve been looking to jump into – the only thing holding me back was how sensitive my skin is. I’ve always thought that I’d start my retinol journey once I’m in my 30s but I think as early as mid-20s if you feel like there’s a need to, then why not. Also, the price is VERY reasonable considering that this product gives results that you can SEE. I don’t find any reason as to why I would not recommend this. Save up for it. Buy it. When I use products that have acids or ingredients that make my skin turn over faster, I try to always support them with very heavy moisturizers. This is because when skin is heavily hydrated, they tend to heal faster and for me it gets less irritations. 

These are some of the products I recommend using the By Wishtrend Vitamin A-mazing Bakuchiol Night Cream with: I’m from Mugwort Essence, I’m from Rice Toner, Isntree Green Tea Fresh Toner, I’m from Pear Serum, and the Mad Hippie Antioxidant Facial Oil.

All of these are lightweight but give high amounts of moisture which I’d definitely recommend to people who have sensitive skin. 

What’s the last thing you want to say before we end the interview? A small skincare advice, perhaps? 🙂

Skincare is very personal. Take me, for example – my routine varies from time to time (sometimes daily) depending on my mood, the weather, or even my ovulation. But I still try things out. I give products second chances because sometimes it’s just bad timing, not a bad product. Maybe you can keep that in mind, too. 

Oh and also, keep hydrating and wear SPF above anything else!
